The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team (IGBST)

The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team (IGBST) is a cooperative effort of the USGS - Biological Resources Division, National Park Service, Forest Service, the States of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. The IGBST conducts research that provides information needed by various agencies for immediate and long-term management of grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) inhabiting the Greater Yellowstone Area.

The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC).
Created in 1983 to lead the recovery of the grizzly bear in the
lower 48 states.

In the Fall 1999 issue of "Bear News," published by the Great Bear Foundation, IGBC's grizzly bears conservation efforts are noted. Editor Dr. Charles Jonkel commented that IGBC has been getting things done, especially regarding road closures in critical grizzly areas, cleaning up garbage situations in West Yellowstone and Cooke City with good dumpsters and by installing backcountry bear-proof storage boxes in campgrounds and outfitter camps.
